Constituted on  29.8.1947

Chairman :Dr.B.R.Ambedkar

Members  :  1. N GopalaswamiAyyengar, 2. AlladiKrishnaswamyIyer,  3. Dr.K M Munshi,   4. Syed Mohammed Saadullah, 5.  N.MadhavaRao(Replaced B.L.Mittar who resigned due to ill-health),  6.  T.T.Krishnamachary( ReplacedD.P.Khaitan ,who died in 1948),

·         First draft published in 1948 February

·         8 month’s time for people’s comments or debates

·         Second draft published in October 1948

·         Drafting Committee sat for 141 days

·         Final draft  submitted to the Constituent assembly on 4-11-1948

·         Draft Constitution was passed on 26-11-1949.Out of 299 members ,284attented and signed.

·         The original constitution consisted of 399 articles and 8 schedules.

·         The constitution came into force  from26^th January 1950.

Jan26,1930 has historical importance.It is on this day “PurnaSwaraj” wascelebrated,following the resolution of Lahore session of Indian national Congress in December 1929.   As a consequence, The Indian Independence Act, 1947 and the Govt of India Act, 1935 etc.. were replaced.
